Kylie is the lifestyle coordinator at our Portofino facility. Completing her Certificate four in Leisure and Health and doing her placement at our facility in Lorocco the transition into aged care came after a life-changing event and realising it was time for a reset.
Aiming to work within the disability sector the opportunity arose in the aged care, and she stayed with the Vacenti family. Kylie’s favourite moments involve watching residents who lose their ability to speak but who then can sing and know all the words, coming alive when they hear music. The joy of being a part of a resident’s journey makes aged care a rewarding industry, and she loves her job.
The one thing she has seen is how diverse communication can be and the ways people develop communication skills in the later stages of life to be able to continue expressing themselves, as a lifestyle coordinator she can experience this with her residents, and it shows how our facilities become communities and family for staff and residents.
Future aspirations include enrolling in a diploma in dementia and management goals of obtaining a regional lifestyle coordinator position but always being a student as a life learner.
